ABOUT

GRETA

JANE

I was born and raised in Paris, France. I came out hairy, small and fussy, and remain so as an adult.

At a very young age, a slowly intensifying absurd sense of humour started to develazop within myself. One that fed on making people laugh like a flesh-eating virus. Growing up, I killed it with my parents and sisters. The sound of people laughing at something I said or did was delectable and the approval I felt made my armpits itch and my insides bop like one of those giant tube people at used car dealerships.

I also feel like it is worth mentioning here that my social skills were (and always will be) on par with that of an un-medicated schizophrenic sloth on meth — awkwardly slow, but twitchy, and all over the place.

I came of age a hot minute before Millennials were a thing. I went to high-school in Paris and loved every minute of it. I turned 18 and went to university to study Mathematics.

My name isn't Greta Jane.

Greta and Jane were my naughty little grandmothers.

My name is Melanie and I make the things on this website.

Make sure your weirdo light shines bright so that the other weirdos know where to find you.”

I made wonderful friends in my 20s, met and loved boys, and went on to pursue a career as an Economist in a wildly corporate setting that allowed me to live all over the world. I am currently happily living in Calgary, Canada.

Keeping my inappropriate zingers from coming out at work and ruining my career became increasingly difficult. I didn’t ever set out to offend or shock my bosses or coworkers, but I couldn’t quite figure out how to actively avoid it. Until one day, it finally hit critical mass and just like that,  I put my Economist career aside to start Greta Jane Paper Co.

I created Greta Jane Paper Co. to embrace the funny in life, from ones inappropriate inner dialogue to ones wobbly bits and pieces.  The company has become a popular local paper business. I found my people. Turns out if you make your weirdo light shine bright so that the other weirdos know where to find you, only success can ensue.
